-Literary devices the author uses.

-Style elements.

-Affect the writing has on you.
To me reading Flags of Our Fathers is quiet amazing because I'm a WWII nerd, and I love anything that has to do with the war. But not only that, you get to hear an untold story of what happened on the Island of Iwo Jima and the legendary moment of six brave men raising the American Flag on the god forsaken Island. Also James Bradley, the author, tells stories of his father, John Bradley, of how he lived, the way he act, and the things he said and kept. He explains that his father's experience in the war was a mystery to him until his father died. The reason why is because his father swore to never tell the hell that rose from Iwo Jima. For me that is just amazing because he kept this secret all his life not telling a soul, and this is something that I could never do.

-Favorite passages
"Appleton was incorporated in 1858 with a population of 1,200, and its aura of quiet radiance, a place apart, never diminished over the ensuring century and a half." (pg.31)
This is really shocking to me because I lived in Appleton, Wisconsin, and I have never heard of John Bradley at all. And he was such a known person for the actions that he took while in the Pacific ocean.
Also another quote that I liked is...
"Then a drink from one of the 'bubblers', the water fountains, that were on every corner downtown." (pg.33)
To me this is just freaken halarious because like what I said before, I'm from Wisconsin. And the greatest thing is when I first came here, Minnesota, I asked a friend of mine, Vang Xiong, "Wheres the bubbler?" He looked at me with a perturbed face and literally said to me, "What the hell is a Bubbler?"

  1. Bubbler: A water fountain.

My question is, how in the heck do you people take the term WATER FOUNTAIN to BUBBLER.
Like, what kind of mess is that?! ROFL!!

I just don't see the resemblance.
